One of the liftgate supports had developed a leak and I noticed the liftgate was a little harder to raise. One time it slowly started floating down, and I knew it was time to replace them. It took ten minutes to swap them out; you should only need a flathead screwdriver to pry out the clips. Use safety glasses since the clips can fly out fast if you raise them too far and they pry off (you can put them back on). Be advised that one support will NOT hold up the liftgate, so have something or someone to hold it up while you replace them. With two new supports in place, the liftgate will raise itself once I lift it above horizontal.
