Hoist-A-Top Power for 2018-2021 Wrangler JL
The Jeep Hoist-A-Top is a must have for Wrangler owners. The new Hoist-A-Top makes removing and storing a hardtop an easy, one -person job. The Hoist-A-Top supports any top with a well-balanced steel frame using the new Balance Blade. Rubber coated hooks and foam-covered hardware will protect your top's finish. The Lange Hoist-A-Top uses an incredibly strong steel powder coated frame that quickly attaches to your vehicle top without any drilling. The rear Smart Hook allows you to lift and store your hardtop with the rear window closed which will improve the balance as well as take up less storage space. This model also stores your freedom top pieces up and out of the way. With the push of a button a small electric winch mounted to the ceiling will lift your top to the ceiling in your garage or carport for convenient, out-of-the-way storage.
Hoist-a-Top uses an incredibly strong steel frame that quickly attaches to your vehicle top. There is nothing to drill or attach to your top. A specially designed cable pulling mechanism then lifts your top to the ceiling in your garage or carport for convenient, out-of-the-way storage. Really nice product. 4 stars because of a few minor gripes, mainy the JL rear attachment point,

Overall VERY satisfied with this product. Make sure you buy the T-Bar Adapter for Lange Hoist-A-Top, if you own a JL. This add-on makes this hoist 100 times easier/better to use.
The installation isn't as straight forward as the videos. All the video's show it being installed in a not finished garage (no drywall) with visible studs. Working upside down and trying to find the studs is not easy. And locating the center of the studs is very challenging, even with a good stud finder. Otherwise if you have basic handy person skills, you can install it. The lift motor is heavy so ladies might ask their hubby's fora little help.
Seems like I have a lot of con's, but I really do like this unit. With a couple manufacturing tweaks, this would be perfect. You can make one of these cheaper, but for me the getting the kit with all the hardware and materials was worth it.

Pros- Solid build.
- Install is fairly straight forward (see con).
- Very easy to use.
Cons- Rear lift point for the Jl is not good. The back window needs to be open and it stresses the trim.
- T-Bar Adapter for Lange Hoist-A-Top is a must for a JL. Con becasue it's an extra $40-50.00. (Make sure you pay attention and get the proper brackets (JL or JK).
- Installation is NOT super easy, I would rate it intermediate plus.
- Getting your Jeep aligned just right is a little challenging. Easier putting on with the roof off.
- The foam padding for the front top pieces is flimsy and cheap.
- When retracting and extending the top, the cable makes very disticntive creaks that sound like they are being stressed. This is due to the unit not having a spool guide to make sure it is spooled evenly. Hopefully this doesn't cause early cable failure.
I wish the control module hadf a longer cable to run it on the ceiling and off to the side for easier location. Better yet, a wireless one would rock.

It seemed like this would be straightforward operationally. It is not easy to attach the rear hook as it has to be positioned between the rear glass and roof. It is equally difficult to remove it.
The pulleys don't keep the hard top level when raising or lowering it. There is varying tension on the cables which causes this.
